CCS Conference on Collective Violence starts Thursday

The biannual Marburg CCS conference “Zentrumstage” starts this coming Thursday. This year the conference will be dealing with “On Collective Violence. Actions, Roles, Perceptions”.

Hier you can find the program and the announcement by the CCS. The opening session will start at 3pm with a ceremony and a keynote lecture by Alette Smeulers (Tilburg University and Groningen University, Netherlands) on the issue of “Ordinary men or evil monsters?”. This deals with one of the rather classical questions of genocide scholarship, no matter of what academic generation or background, the puzzles around the people participating, their reasons and motives, and how they can be judged. Let’s see in what direction Alette Smeulers’ lecture can nudge research on the issue.

All events of the conference take place in the Historical Assembly Hall of the Old Town Hall of Marburg, at the Market Square.
